Director
Andrew Baird
Andrew, who likes defining himself as made in Ireland but built in America, has established himself as a prolific filmmaker, consistently working with some of the industry’s most recognizable and established stars in film, advertising, and music. Kevin Bacon, MGK, The Weeknd, Guy Pearce, Storm Reid, Matilda Lutz, Travis Fimmel, and Alex Pettyfer are just a few of the notable names he has collaborated with.
After a long period as both an art director and then director of high-end commercials and music videos for clients such as BMW, U2, Korn, and Ford, he was offered his first feature film, the sci-fi “Zone 414,” which he cast with Guy Pearce, Travis Fimmel, and Matilda Lutz. It debuted on Netflix in January 2022 and was in the top 10 for 3 weeks. He immediately followed this with the crime film “One Way,” which stars Kevin Bacon, MGK, and Storm Reid (Euphoria) and was the No. 1 movie on Hulu for several weeks this year. Andrew had his third feature, “Sunrise,” released theatrically by Lionsgate in the US on January 19. The supernatural thriller once again stars Guy Pearce and the charismatic Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike, I Am Number Four). He received some of the best reviews of his career, and both Alex and Guy were repeatedly singled out for their powerhouse performances.
Andrew has developed a superb reputation for working on visually and physically complex productions with high-caliber and high-maintenance personalities while always bringing projects in on time, on budget, and eliciting superlative performances regardless of circumstance. Talent trusts that Andrew will bring out their very best, and that’s why they want to work with him on a repeat basis. Birdseye presents Andrew with a perfect opportunity to deploy all his technical expertise and proven track record with world-class talent, executing a film in the vein of American and British films he grew up on, such as the Bond films and early Frankenheimer works.
Additionally, Andrew spent 2 years living and working in Eastern Europe as a commercial director and developing his first feature film, so he knows the region very well. Here is a link to all the materials on his first film, “Zone 414,” which we feel is most relevant for Birdseye. Like Birdseye, “Zone 414” is centered around a strong female lead who has to fight for her freedom and individuality. Matilda Lutz (Revenge, Reptile, and the SXSW 2024/Daisy Ridley movie “Magpie”) starred in the film. “Zone 414” launched Matilda as an international leading actress in her first leading English-speaking role. It was a top 10 hit on Netflix in January 2022 when it was released. Matilda will next be seen portraying the iconic female action-adventure hero, Red Sonja.
